Graham Swain and Earth Architecture

  • Graham established Earth Architecture more than 20 years ago frustrated that many landscape companies were not doing things properly, the way he was trained. They cut corners, they were untrained and ruining gardens. They had amazing websites and charged a lot of money. They used decking that subsequently rotted and white rendered walls and white plastered raised beds with the wrong mix that blew out with frost and needed maintaining. Paving was laid incorrectly and often not cut if a curve was needed, just left with square edges to save time and effort. The landscapers that built the gardens were reading a cold plan drawn by a garden designer who didn’t personally build the garden. There was little scope for real creativity and any changes needed to the garden design on the day were not possible.
  • Graham has an honours degree in Architecture, is Horticulturally trained at RHS Wisley in Surrey near to where he grew up attending informal courses. Graham has a wealth of experience, is fully hands-on in your garden, tweaking the design each day during construction to get the very best garden for his valued clients, and mainly employs two experienced landscapers.
  • Earth Architecture designs and constructs gardens that last the test of time.
  • Gardening is in Graham’s blood – his ancestor, John Stewart was Head Gardener for Lord Palmerston at his Broadlands Estate, Hampshire.
  • Graham has designed, built and restored hundreds of gardens and also designed and restored gardens in France, Ibiza and The Algarve.
  • This professional, personal and bespoke service is unique and has a great advantage over many if not all competitors, small or large.
  • Featured in The NEWS, Portsmouth, as a colour double page written by the gardens editor whose eco-friendly allotment garden Earth Architecture designed and built.
  • Graham has appeared as a garden expert for Channel 4 TV, ‘The Property Ladder’.
  • The philosophy of Earth Architecture is to give more and better value than the client can imagine so that we all sleep well at night.
  • Keeping prices low and competitive and giving the very best value helps Earth Architecture survive. We always give more than the client expects and this upholds our good name and good reputation.
  • The majority of Earth Architecture’s work comes through recommendation.
  • Do book early to avoid disappointment.

A Gardens Talk at Hill Place, Swanmore, Hampshire

Livability Rose Fellowship Reception
Graham was invited to talk about gardens and garden design to thirty three charity donors at Hill Place. The illustrated talk, with garden poetry and proverbs read by Emily Swain, an actor, was very well received.

Smartie

Below is Graham’s Sealyham terrier, Smartie, the Foreman, and the most adorable, gentle and loveable dog you could ever wish to meet. Earth Architecture is always sensitive to clients needs so if you prefer her to stay at home or in the van, just say, she won’t take it personally.
